The Athletics Department at
Columbia
University has recently launched a new Club. The Little Lion Club is an official Columbia University Athletics fan club for children who are 13 years old and younger. Members of the Little Lion club get the opportunity to meet the coaches, student athletes, and the spirit group members. Little Lion Club members will also have the opportunity to become Honorary Ball Kids at
Columbia
University’s home played football games, as well as the men’s and women’s basketball games.
This is an outstanding way to gain the younger fan base, and bring some added attention to the athletics at
Columbia
University. Members of the Little Lion club will also be invited to pizza parties with Roar-ee the Lion, as well as pre-game events. They receive a Little Lion Club t-shirt, and the SuperFans will receive admission to all football and basketball games played on
Columbia
University territory.
There are two membership packages available for children to join in the club’s activities. Each package includes a large number of items to help children get into the spirit of supporting the athletic teams. The Little Lion Club SuperFan package will include an official membership card, a t-shirt, the opportunity to become Honorary Ball Kid at football and basketball games, pre-game basketball clinics, pizza parties, autograph sessions with coaches and athletes, personal emails from the Athletics Department at
Columbia
University, and tickets for all home games, as well as other promotions and special contests. This package is currently priced at $50 per year. There is also a basic package offered for just a $30 fee annually. This package includes everything that the SuperFan package above has, with the exception of contest tickets. Since
Columbia
University strives to involve students in every aspect of the campus activities, having a club in place for younger children to enjoy is a wonderful way to secure future students. In addition, the Athletics Department gains some added exposure, and the games could possibly gain more spectators. With the ongoing problems in schools today with drugs, as well as eating disorders, and the school shootings that have occurred, it is a wonderful idea to involve younger children in a program where they can receive structure and gain an overall appreciation of athletics.
Columbia
University has made great strides in creating a better atmosphere for children with the implementation of the Little Lions Club.
